Commissioner Vestager calls for more security and trust through regulation

During her speech at the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) standing committee, Commissioner Margrethe Vestager reaffirmed her intent to tackle the power of digital platform through fierce regulation and competition. Stressing her position as the commissioner in charge of making Europe fit for the digital age, Vestager voiced support for the rule of law and ethical standards in the digital world. Competition and regulation go hand in hand in protecting competition and European consumers; competition enforcers need to be able to act when necessary. Vestager stressed that the European society should define basic standards and effective rules in place in order to grow trust and confidence in digitised business.
