Chinese scientists report a successful quantum satellite communication trials over a 1200 km distance

Chinese scientist reported a successful quantum satellite communication tests between two 1200 km distant places using Micius satellite that was launched in 2016.  Although, the technology is still immature the Chinese scientists expect to introduce the first practically usable quantum satellite in five years. Quantum communication currently qualifies as highly secure making it impossible to wiretap or intercept. Chinese government provided significant funds for country’s quantum communication research and is at the forefront of experimental space quantum research. Apart from satellite communication China also supports construction of physical quantum infrastructure on the ground.
