China to continue in developing quantum communication infrastructure

Following the successful launch of a quantum satellite in August 2016, scientists in China have announced yet another achievement in quantum communication research. China has built a 712 km quantum communication line between Shangai and Hefei, making it the longest quantum line so far anywhere. The line is expected to be extended into a 2000 km connection from Beijing to Shanghai. Quantum communication currently qualifies as highly secure making it impossible to wiretap, intercept or crack the information transmitted by it.  Chinese scientists are now able to emulate a data transfer reaching almost 400 km that is sufficient to ensure an encrypted voice transmission by telephone, reports the University of Science and Technology of China.
