A new report titled ‘Children's data and privacy online Growing up in the Digital Age’ was released on Data Privacy Day. The study conducted by Children’s Data and Privacy Online and funded by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), highlights that children value their privacy, however the privacy practices they follow are dependent to their social environment. The report also suggests there is a need to design standards and regulatory frameworks for protecting children’s privacy across different age groups.
Children’s use of the Internet and mobile technology is increasing, and for many children worldwide there is no clear distinction between the online and offline world. Access to the Internet presents many opportunities for their education, personal development, self-expression, and interaction with others.
