Canadian privacy commissioners launch joint investigation into Clearview AI over data protection and privacy concerns

The privacy protection authorities for Canada, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta announced they will jointly investigate Clearview AI and its use of facial recognition technology. In the wake of media reports that have raised concerns about whether the company is collecting and using personal information without consent, four Canadian privacy regulators will examine whether the organization’s practices are in compliance with Canadian privacy legislation. The four regulators consist of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), La Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec (CAI), the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (OIPC BC) and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OIPC AB).
