Amazon forces delivery drivers to sign biometric consent

Amazon required its US delivery drivers to sign a biometric consent that gives the company permission to use cameras with AI technology to access drivers’ location, movement and biometric information, such as facial recognition. More specifically drivers will have their miles driven, speed, acceleration, braking, turns tracked by Amazon’s AI technology. The company has around 75 thousand in the USA. The biometric consent is a condition to keep their work within the company. The cameras with AI technology are being allegedly installed to improve safety and the quality of the delivery experience, but drivers have concerns about their privacy rights.

Amazon drivers in the USA are not employed by Amazon, but by 800 different companies referred to as delivery service partners. However, Amazon controls several aspects of the drivers work, including their training, delivery quotas and the requirement to wear Amazon’s uniform.
