Almost 300 million domain names registered in the third quarter of 2015, according to Verisign

In its recently published Domain Name Industry Brief, Verisign announced that approximately 299 million domain names were registered across all top-level domain (TLDs) during the third quarter of 2015. This is an increase of 1.1 percentage compared to the second quarter of the year, and a 5.2% increase from the third quarter in 2014.

The five largest TLDs by zone size are .com, .tk (the country code top level domain – ccTLD for Tokelau), .de (Germany),.net and .cn.  

As of 30 Sept.2015, registrations in new generic top level domains (new gTLDs) represented 2.5% of the overall domain names registrations. The new gTLDs with the largest number of registrations were .xyz, .top, .网址, .science and .wang.
