Information and communications technologies for sustainable development (A/RES/73/218)

The resolution builds on previous resolutions of ICT for development, and stresses ‘the commitment to significantly increase access to information and communications technologies and strive to provide universal and affordable access to the Internet in the least developed countries by 2020’, while helping to bridge digital divides. It establishes the Working Group on Enhanced Cooperation, but notes challenges ‘faced by States in preventing and combating the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes’. Lastly, the document presents a list of several topics, ranging from increased communications and cooperation, to focus on e-Commerce, and to the importance of the free flow of information and knowledge.
