Intensification of efforts to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls: Sexual harassment (Resolution A/C.3/73/L.21/Rev.1)

Resolutions and Declarations

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution titled ‘Intensification of efforts to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls: sexual harassment’. The resolution highlights that sexual harassment of women in the digital context leads to a hostile environment which in turn has a negative impact on women’s rights and opportunities.

Inter alia, the resolution calls (article 14) on the member states to ‘encourage digital technology companies, including Internet service providers and digital platforms, to strengthen or adopt positive measures with a view to eliminating violence and sexual harassment, including sexual harassment in digital contexts’ and makes a reference to the Secretary-General’s Global Database on Violence against Women (article 22) that contains information on national policies and legal frameworks aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls and supporting victims of such violence’. The resolution encourages member states as well as other concerned actors including civil society to continue contributing to the Database.
