Principles and Recommendations

This declaration focuses on transparency, accountability and the protection of representative democracy in regards to the Internet. Through its five principles, it aims to address issues of disinformation and ‘fake news’ that pose a threat to the development of democracy and a civilising global dialogue. These principles assign a significant responsibility to global technology companies. The declaration was signed by members of the national Parliaments of Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Ireland, Latvia, Singapore and the UK.
