General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)

Conventions and Treaties

The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) is an international agreement that aims to promote international trade by reducing/eliminating barriers to trade through measures such as tariffs and quotas. GATT was signed by 23 states in Geneva on 30 October 1947 and entered into force on 1 January 1948. The agreement was replaced in 1995 when the World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreements were concluded. The WTO agreements include an updated version of the GATT.
