30 Jun 2021

Online

On 30 June 2021, within the second UN Counter-Terrorism Week, a side event on Prevention and misuse of new communication platforms will take place.

This session aims to understand the changing online environment, channels and methods used by terrorists and violent groups, particularly in the context of COVID-19. It will aim to explore new and unconventional methods of communication in the digital space, as well as exploring preventive measures to take into consideration. This will include an analysis of new and emerging communications platforms such as “new generation” social media and online gaming networks.

The second UN Counter-Terrorism Week will be held from 21 to 30 June 2021. The theme is Countering and Preventing Terrorism in the Age of Transformative Technologies: Addressing the Challenges of the New Decade, and will be complemented by a number of side events, which will facilitate discussion of the four pillars of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
