GIP Head on Lecture Tour in Asia

Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia

The Internet poses a wide range of challenges for modern diplomacy, including: How to protect national cybersecurity? How to govern the Internet on the global level? How to keep up with the content policy dynamics? These and many other questions will be discussed during a number of lectures in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, delivered by Dr Jovan Kurbalija, head of the Geneva Internet Platform and director of DiploFoundation.

The lecture tour will take Dr Kurbalija to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 10-12 March. The tour will then proceed with a lecture on Internet: Challenges and Opportunities for Diplomacy, at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore, on 13 March. The event will be chaired by Mr Xavier Nuttin, EU Fellow, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

Dr Kurbalija will then visit the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, for a lecture on Europe's Internet Storm: What to expect on privacy and surveillance after the Paris terrorist attacks, on 16 March. Mr Richard Werly, Paris correspondent for the Swiss daily Le Temps will also chair the lecture.

The lecture tour will end at Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika in Jakarta, Indonesia on 17 March, with a lecture on Multistakeholder Internet governance: From Cybersecurity to Digital Policy Dynamics. Mr Rudiantara, the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information Technology, will chair the session.
