[Briefing #35] Internet governance in May 2017

Geneva, Switzerland; local hubs; and online

The WannaCry ransomware cyber attack, said to be the biggest outbreak so far, hit countries worldwide (although it did not generate large amounts of ransom). The Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union opined that Uber is a transport company. Facebook was fined €110 million by the EU for providing incorrect or misleading information during its purchase of WhatsApp. What other main Internet governance updates hit the headlines in May, and what are the policy implications? How will they shape future developments, and what can we expect in June? Join us for our next monthly briefing, on Tuesday, 30th May, for a round-up of the major global IG and digital policy developments.

[Update] The following resources are now available: View the briefing recording, including perspectives from local hubs; read the digest, summarising the main interventions; download your copy of the Geneva Digital Watch newsletter rounding up the updates for May.

You receive hundreds of pieces of information on digital politics.
We receive them, too.

We decode, contextualise, and analyse them.
Then we summarise them for you.

On the last Tuesday of every month, the Internet governance briefings provide a 'zoomed-out' update of the major global IG and digital policy developments. They are delivered live from Geneva (WMO Building, 2nd floor, 7 bis Avenue de la Paix), and broadcast online.

The Internet governance in May 2017 briefing takes place on Tuesday, 30th May, at 11:00 UTC (13:00 CEST). Join us online, or in Geneva, or from any of the hubs; fill in the registration form to reserve your place.

Regional perspectives

Local hubs in Brazil and South Eastern Europe will share their regional perspectives.

The monthly Internet governance briefings are organised by the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP), a Swiss initiative run by DiploFoundation. Learn more about our monthly briefings and local hubs. To keep up-to-date with GIP events, subscribe to our mailing list. More information at gip@diplomacy.edu
