9th BRICS Summit

The 9th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Summit will be held on 3-5 September 2017, in Xiamen, China, under China's Chairmanship.

The overarching theme of the summit will be 'BRICS: Stronger Partnership for a Brighter Future'. The summit is expected to make progress in the following areas:

  • deepen BRICS cooperation for common development: strenghten economic partnership and promote international cooperation on development;
  • enhance global governance to jointly meet challenges: maintain international peace and stability, foster an open world economy, improve international financial and monetary systems, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in multilateral mechanisms;
  • carry out people-to-people exchanges to support BRICS cooperation: engage in cultural exchanges and mutual learning, enhance educational cooperation, and promote development of sports;
  • and make institutional improvements and build broader partnerships: improve cooperation mechanisms to provide guarantee for cooperation in various fields, and build broader partnerships.
