15th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium

The 15th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS-17) will take place on 14–16 November 2017, in Hammamet, Tunisia. The Symposium is organised by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Government of Tunisia. 

Under the theme 'Transforming emerging technologies into economic opportunities with better data', WTIS-17 will feature discussions on information and communications technology (ICT) data for investment, and emerging ICT trends in artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. There will also be debates on the role of data in creating a healthy investment climate and the importance of improving the state of ICT statistics to signal market growth potential and attract investment. 

ITU's latest 'Measuring the Information Society Report' will be launched at WTIS-17, containing the results of the latest ICT Development Index (IDI) that benchmarks the level of ICT development in over 170 economies worldwide. The ITU will also present its pilot project on big data for measuring the information society.

The event is expected to bring together around 500 participants from more than 100 countries working on ICT statistics in revelant ministries, regulatory agencies, telecommunications operators, technology companies, and national statistical offices.
