Facebook and UK’s Metropolitan Police partner to tackle streaming of armed attacks

Facebook and the UK’s Metropolitan Police (Met) have announced a partnership that would help the tech company develop artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to detect and stop the online streaming of terrorist and firearms attacks. Starting October 2019, the Met will provide Facebook with video recordings of training by its Firearms Command. The recordings will be captured on body cameras to be worn by firearms officers as they undertake their usual shooting training. The company will use the footage from Met, as well as other videos provided by US law enforcement, to train its AI algorithms to identify live streaming of firearms attacks in their early stages, remove it, and assist authorities in their responses.
