AFRINIC 20 – AIS 2014

AFRINIC- 20, our 20th Public Policy Meeting will be held from 4 – 6 June 2014 in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti, during the Africa Internet Summit (AIS) 2014.

The AIS takes place from the 25 May to 6 June 2014 and this year’s theme is Beyond Connection: Internetworking for African Development. The summit provides a platform for participants to share and spread Internet-related knowledge pertinent to the African region and where key development issues faced by Africa can be discussed.

The AFRINIC-20 Meeting consists of various technical training workshops and a dedicated day for Internet Operators in the African region: the Africa Operators’ Day (AfOPs). Operators provide insights on the various challenges and opportunities, and share relevant experiences on ICT technical and business related issues. AfOPs is followed by two days of plenaries where the African ICT community will come together to discuss Internet policy issues and Internet number resource management in the African region. In addition, internationally renowned speakers deliver presentations on relevant technical and Internet governance issues. The meeting also gives AFRINIC an opportunity to meet with its members and the community as well as to present updates about its activities and operations.

Policy Development

Policy discussions are at the heart of the plenary sessions. Facilitated by the Policy Development Working Group co-chairs, the sessions will focus on the current policies that will be under discussion, namely Academic IPv4 Allocation | AFPUB-2013-GEN-001-DRAFT-03 |.

Elections

Other highlights of the meeting include the Annual General Members Meeting, during which AFRINIC Board Elections for the following seats will be held:

-Indian Ocean regional seat

-Central Africa regional seat

-Non-geographical seat

Other elections will include the election of a Policy Development Working Group (PDWG) co-chair, as the current co-chair, Emile Milandou’s, mandate comes to term.
